Meet our Governing Body

Dr Margaret Culshaw - Chair Of Governors (Co-opted)

Appointed Chair of Governors 13 July 2021.

I am honoured to be asked to be the Chair of the Governing Board for Scholes J and I School and will work with other Governors to support the staff, parents and pupils over the academic year.

I live locally and have recently retired from the University of Huddersfield where I taught pharmacy for 14 years. Prior to the move to teaching I worked as a prescribing advisor for the GP practices in the South Huddersfield area. Before moving to Yorkshire, I worked in various NHS hospitals across the country for 20 years so I can offer a range of experience from some very different organisations.

My motivation for being a Governor is to ‘put something back’ into local education which has provided my two grown up children with the opportunities to meet their ambitions. I want to contribute to every child having the early education which will support them to do anything to which they aspire.

Mrs Jane French - Vice Chair of Governors (Co-opted)

Appointed Vice Chair of Governors 13 July 2021.

My husband and I have lived in the village and been associated with Scholes J & I school for 30 years. My three children all attended this school and are now happily married with children of their own. I was a teacher at the school for nearly 20 years, (teaching mainly year 6 ) and held responsibility for Maths and became part of the the school Senior Leadership Team. I retired from my role in August 2017.

In September 2017 I became a governor of the school and I am pleased to continue being part of a school that has always been a happy and friendly environment, which holds individual interest at heart. It was a pleasure to work in this school and I look forward to being part of its future development and success.

I am the lead for Achievement and Curriculum.

Mrs Jennifer Ashby - Governor (Co-opted)

I have recently retired from Sheffield Girls High school, where I taught Geology and Chemistry to GCSE and A level for over 20 years. I have also been Head of Careers and UCAS/ Oxbridge coordinator.

I have been a Governor at Scholes J & I for 8 years and I am in my third term of office. I am governor for teacher appraisal and sit on the panel for the Headteacher’s appraisal. I am also a member of the appeals panel.

Scholes is a happy learning environment which brings out the best in all its pupils.

I am pleased to be associated with the school and privileged to act as one of the Governors.

Mrs Kirsty Fox - Governor (Staff)

I live in Wooldale, am married and have two primary school aged children who attend a local school. I have taught for over 11 years and have worked predominantly in Kirklees where I have gained skills in teaching primary aged children from a wide variety of backgrounds.

I have worked at Scholes for over five years. Currently, I teach in year 5 and lead Lower KS2, Reading and Geography. I love working at Scholes and care immensely about the children and staff who work there.

I have been a member of the Senior Leadership team in two schools for most of my career and I am excited to use my skills to work with the Governing Body to achieve further success for the school. Education is something I feel very passionate about and I am looking forward to playing a bigger part in Scholes’ future achievements.

Ms Joanne White - Governor (Parent)

I have a daughter at Scholes J & I School and hope her brother is lucky enough to join her in the future.

Throughout my marketing career, I've worked in the educational technology sector. I loved working with schools and seeing the impact they have on their local communities. It's fascinating to see the different approaches to education across the UK and the world and it sparked a passion in me to always be connected to education wherever my career took me.

Making education equitable is hugely important to me, and I hope to bring some fresh insights to the team, energy, and lots of ideas.

Mrs Kate Dover - Governor (Co-opted)

I am delighted to be appointed as a governor at Scholes J & I.

I retired in 2016, I was a Project Manager and Business Consultant leading on IT, business change and service improvement projects in public sector settings including Local Authorities and Health.

I am passionate about reading and the importance of literacy at all stages of life. Through my workplace in Leeds I volunteered to support children in inner city schools with reading, as part of our Social Responsibility commitment.

I have lived in Scholes with my husband for 11 years. We don’t have children but have a great nephew who is 2 and is just starting his education journey.

My interest in being a Governor is partly to engage with school as an important community focus and to understand changes and priorities in education settings as my great nephew gets older.

I would also very much like to apply some of the skills and experience I gained in working life for the benefit of the school, where relevant and appropriate.
